GIFT OF LOVE ~ GIFT OF LIFE
Kidney Transplant, Barnes Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical School, St. Louis, MO. July 8, 2004. Wendy Moore, donor - Dave Moore, receipient.
Dave and Wendy ready to leave for admitting and final testing on Wednesday, July 7, 2004. Check in time for Dave is 8am and 9am for Wendy.
Wendy and Mark killing time between blood tests and x-rays. Later that day, Wendy's surgeon Dr. Martin Jendrisak, met with her and also the anesthesiologist.
Meanwhile Dave was spending his afternoon on his last dialysis........
While in dialysis, Dave's anesthesiologist met with him. Dave will follow Wendy into surgery approximately one half hour after Wendy. Later that evening, Daves surgeon explains that he expects the new kidney to begin working immediately. Dave's surgery will take a little longer than Wendy's.
THURSDAY, JULY 8, 2004

Wendy changed and waiting for her Dad at 5:20 a.m.
5:30 a.m. - Dave and Wendy begin waiting for transport to surgery.
Wendy is taken to pre-op at 6:15 a.m., and
Dave at 6:25 a.m.
Wendy was taken to the operating room at 7:35a.m.. Surgery began at 8:07a.m. Update at 8:30, Wendy is doing well.

The kidney is removed at 10:25 a.m. and placed in Dave at 10:40 a.m. Both Dave and Wendy are doing well at the 11:00 a.m. update. Wendy's surgeon Dr. Martin Jendrisak, came to the waiting room at 11:15, Wendy is receiving final sutures and will return to her room after an approxunate hour and half in recovery. Her remaining kidney will immediately being growing to compensate.
Wendy is taken to the recovery room at 12:15p.m. At that time there is no further word on Dave.
At 1:00 p.m., Daves surgeon, Dr. Surendra Shenoy, came to the waiting room to advise that Dave did well. The new kidney is currently funtioning at 30% and will continue to increase. He will be moved soon to the Observation Unit at 4300.
We were finally allowed to see both Wendy and Dave at 2:15 p.m.
Wendy doesn't remember her first day up, July 9th..........
